13,554 Visitors via 9,653 Keywords

This screen shot from the Google Analytics of one of  my Internet coaching clients clearly shows 3 things.

1. The “Long Tail” of search is HUGE. Of the 9,653 keywords that delivered visitors to the site only one keyword delivered more than 200 visitors and it only delivered 230. Only 2 keywords delivered more than 100 visitors, combined they delivered 305, and hundreds of keywords delivered visitors in the double and single digits. These “long tail” keywords delivered well over 90% of the visitors.

2. Consistency Pays. Look at the graph. When we started in January Google was delivering between 25 and 70 free visitors per day. Today we average between 75 and 190. In May we had a 167% increase in free Google visitors since January.

3. SEO Delivers High Quality Visitors. Notice that organic Google rankings delivered 78.57% of the sites new visitors and on average those visitors spent 4:22 on 6.25 pages of the site.

Getting a 167% increase in free, high quality, visitors to ANY small business website in 5 months is dramatic, and of course “your results will vary” :-), but this is what being an Internet  marketing coach is all about. Learn more at http://imgmembers.com/join-3/

2 of the most effective website conversion tactics you can include in your Internet Marketing Program are video and case studies.

The “video case study” below combines these tactics very effectively. Watch this video with an eye to how you can do something similar for your business.

I used a “screen capture” video (using Camtasia) with “audio over” to explain what the viewer is seeing.  I’m using the video as part of a sales process. You will notice that below the video there is additional “social proof” and a  ”call to action”. Click the video to watch it.

Of course obtaining top Google rankings are important but the top rankings must deliver quality visitors so the next important benchmark is visitor count. Here’s a screen shot from Google Analytics:

“Ed I wanted to let you know that you have tripled my business in less than 4 months. I am amazed!  I know it’s the clear and concise website, the compelling content, the clear “calls to action” and 207 first page Google rankings that have made all the difference. Thank you!

I also want to let you know how much I appreciate your pricing. As I small business I have to operate on a tight budget and your extremely fair pricing totally surpassed my expectations.

I could not be happier with your service, your pricing and mostly the results. I will gladly refer you to anyone and everyone I know who is interested in improving their website or their Internet marketing and please feel free to use my as a referral at any time should you need one.”

Do you ever wonder why you do what you do… or better: Why you DON’T DO what you don’t do… even when you absolutely know you should?

I lost 110 pounds (see http://thehalomethod.com/) and, as I’m fond of saying, I did it without drugs, surgery or willpower. What I have now discovered is the neuroscience of my weight loss plan can be directly applied to Internet marketing in a way that can effortlessly transform your business.

I have spent the last several years trying to determine why I was able to lose the weight this time, after decades of buying books, going on diets and mustering up willpower and discipline only to fall short of my desires and ultimately slip back into old habits and gain even more weight.

Now, after hundreds of hours of soul searching and mediation; and after reading (actually listening to- I’m a huge fan of audio books) dozens of books on human behavior I have come to some conclusions.

Since I’m a simplifier by nature, I tend to take the complex and boil it down into its most basic and essential elements. Here’s what I have come to believe:

I did 3 very simple things that transformed my body:

  1. I found a compelling reason
  2. I identified new things to do
  3. I changed my habits

Here’s how this relates to you and your business…

Right now you have a set of behaviors and habits associated to your Internet marketing.

  •         You either write content or blog posts every week or you don’t.
  •         You post to social media daily or you don’t.
  •         You monitor your SEO and rankings or… you don’t.
  •         You monitor visitor engagement on your website or you don’t.

Here’s my point, these things you are doing, or not doing, have become habits. Like my old habits around food and exercise, your habits around your Internet marketing may not be taking you in the direction you want to go.  In my case my habits were robbing me of health and vitality. I was setting myself up for catastrophic failure; a heart attack or stroke.

You may be on the same path right now with your business. Your business may be just surviving rather than thriving. The future of your business may be uncertain rather than bright.

So what becomes the catalyst for change, for you?

What can be done to shift your habits and patterns in a way that supports the outcome you want for your business?

For me, my first step was identifying a “bigger purpose” and what I have found in my studies is that this is very common.  Surgeon General’s warnings are not enough to get people to quit smoking (in fact there is evidence that suggests they could actually increase it), the possibility of a heart attack in the distant future is not an effect habit changer and for many small business owners the thought of making more money is just not compelling enough to transform behaviors.

“We started out to get a computer in the hands of everyday people,
and we succeeded beyond our wildest dreams.”-Steve Jobs

Jobs had a vision that drove his behaviors and having a vision is something that you can do to. It’s exactly what I did before I started losing weight. I had a new vision for myself, a compelling reason to change my eating and exercise habits.  Of course I still had to find new things to do, new things to eat, new ways to move, and you will have to find new things to do related to your Internet marketing (of course I can help with that).

The starting point, the thing you can do right now to start building a better future for your business is to establish a compelling vision, a reason, a WHY you do what you do.

All the best.

One last thing, The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business by Charles Duhigg is absolutely fascinating. I highly recommend it.

Earlier this week I was interviewed on a program for small business owners. The host started with a very interesting question. She asked, “When it comes to Internet marketing how do you determine what should be done, and more importantly how do you determine what should be done FIRST?”

What an essential issue for every small business- KNOWING what to do NOW as it relates to your Internet marketing.

Here’s how I answered:

I always start with what I call SWOT Analysis. Let me explain what a SWOT Analysis is and why I always start with one.

The way I use it a SWOT Analysis is a simplification tool. I’m a huge believer in SIMPLIFICATION.

SWOT, S-W-O-T stands for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats.

The way I apply this to Internet marketing is this-

We start with your goal or intended outcome.

The clients might say I want my website to generate qualified leads for my insurance agency, or generate customers to my tire shop, or I want customers to come and buy products from my online store.

So we identify the goal or objective and then look at the website and other Internet marketing channels like social networks and e-mail marketing through the SWOT lens.

We evaluate the “look & feel” of the website and measure that against both the visitors expectations and competitors websites. If our clients website does not match the visitors expectations that’s a Weakness.

We evaluate the content of the site, the headline and call to action. If the content is unique, compelling and differentiates you from your competitors that would be a Strength.

We will evaluate the Search Engine Optimization and if the clients site is not ranking well on their long tail keywords we will recognize that as an Opportunity.

Occasionally while evaluating the SEO we find SEO tactics had been used that violate Google policies- this is obviously a Threat.

Of course there are many different Strengths, Weakness, Opportunities and Threats but you get the idea. By clearly identifying the businesses primary objective and then evaluating all of the marketing elements of the website and marketing channels we can develop a list of “to do’s”.

This “to do” list is then prioritized in a way that allows the client to first pick the low hanging fruit. We start be focusing on the items that will add the most bottom-line profits, in the shortest amount of time and with the least effort.

What we don’t do is start with what is most popular in the moment. Just because Facebook, Twitter & Pinterest, etc. are popular and all the buzz right now that does not mean that’s where you should be focusing your time and money. Remember, most people find most websites, most of the time through Google and the other search engines.

We didn’t engage Ed Taylor until I had attended 3 or 4 of his free SEO webinars. I was able to use information he was providing at no cost to solve some SEO issues. I liked what he had to say and how he said it.

Ed is our 9th SEO firm and hopefully our last. First of all his model is unique. He’s a “coach” which means you meet via web conference examining your website, analytics and so forth. Based upon the metrics, Ed then makes actionable recommendations to increase your website’s traffic and conversion.

Because he’s “coaching” you, you do the heavy lifting – content & email deployment – URL fixes and so forth. Ironically having been a client elsewhere I’m doing about the same amount of work I was while retaining other SEO firms at a much higher cost.

The biggest difference between Ed and other firms seems to be SEO firms spend a lot of “chargeable” time developing back links but charge extra for content creation or any other “under the hood” work. One popular model today is to target 5 keywords for the first page of Google – for $1000 per month fee.

With Ed we’re tracking about 200 keywords (about 26 on page one now) and watch closely for “low hanging” opportunities like 2nd page keywords we can focus efforts to push to page one with small efforts. It’s a more holistic approach

Since engaging Ed’s service – about 60 days ago, we’ve almost doubled the number of keywords on page one of Google and seen traffic to WindyCityParrot.com increase about 15 – 20%. Ed has brought a number of keywords into focus that enable us to see higher search rankings thus more “quality” website traffic.

I would highly recommend Ed, especially to website start ups not only because of his business model and pricing but because he is trustworthy

Ed as you know I have worked with four Internet marketing experts over the last two years, and I wanted to take a few minutes to let you know that my experience with you is not even comparable to the rest.

You are extraordinarily bright and gifted when it comes to Internet marketing, you are an ethical professional who I know I can trust (which I’ve found to be extremely rare in this field).  You have given me many excellent suggestions that we have implemented to improve the results produced by our website, blog, social marketing, e-mail and  even some of our “off line” marketing. Thank you.

I want you to know that I would highly recommend you to anyone looking for a very knowledgeable Internet marketing expert. Please feel free to pass this along to anyone who is considering hiring you to be their Internet marketing coach.

Can you guess which landing page version got DOUBLE the conversion rate of the other? Understanding what will increase your website conversions can massively increase your bottom-line profits. Checkout these results but be sure to read the entire analysis.

The only difference between the two is that one has a top nav bar, and the other does not. http://whichtestwon.com/archives/13845

Conversions were the number of visitors who signed up to start a wedding registry on this kitchen ecommerce site. The site’s popular in South Africa, but we think this landing page test could yield eye-opening results in any country in the world.

So, take your best shot at guessing which version did better, and then post your comments: http://whichtestwon.com/archives/13845

You know I’m a huge fan of social networking BUT most people, get to most websites, most of the time, from a search engines, period!

Google, Yahoo! and Bing will drive FAR MORE qualified visitors to your website and (if your website does a good job converting visitors into customers or leads) add far more profits to your bottom line  than Facebook, LinkeIn, Twitter and the rest combined. Again, I love them all, but in 2012 SEO IS STILL KING when it comes to adding profits to your small business. Get your SEO in order FIRST and then build your social networking and mobile marketing.

Check out the video, it reveals the #1 key to a successful SEO campaign.

Just to be clear, an Internet marketing coach will show you what to do and how to do it, while an Internet marketing consultant typically gives you ideas to consider doing. There’s a huge difference between the two.

I am an Internet marketing coach for  2 reasons:

  1. Small business owners gain a huge competitive advantage when they understand and control their own Internet marketing.
  2. Being an Internet marketing COACH best suits who I am, my personality as a teacher and “way-shower.”

Here’s why I think many Internet marketing coaching programs have it “bass ackwards”.
They start you in a low cost “entry level program” and continually up-sell you into more and more expensive programs. I get it, I  understand the sales psychology, it’s easier to sell a lower cost program and then up-sell existing customers over time. But that is the exact opposite of what most small businesses need, especially in these increasingly competitive, rapidly changing, times.

If you are a small business owner looking for an Internet marketing coach chances are you don’t want to start slow, you need to start fast. The challenge is you don’t want to waste time and money on something that won’t work. Right?

You want an expert to look at where you are, see what’s going on with you and your competitors and give you specific advice and direction that will allow you to increase profits NOW! You need a prioritized “to-do list” that is developed specifically for you and your unique needs.

My Internet marketing coaching program starts with an Internet marketing SWOT analyses. We evaluate the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats relating to your Internet marketing. This SWOT analysis helps identify where we should focus and where we should focus first to get the most “bang for the buck”. It costs a bit more up-front but you get what you need and you get it NOW!

I help to prioritize your Internet marketing efforts so you accomplish the most profitable results in the shortest time. We will capitalize on your greatest strengths and take advantage your competitors weaknesses.

As it relates to Internet marketing I have found that success dramatically improves when business owners know what to do, how to do it and what to do when and that’s exactly what I provide as an Internet marketing coach.

You will learn what Internet marketing tactics you can, and should, do yourself; and what, if anything, you should outsource to service providers.

With today’s incredibly simple marketing tools and Content Management Systems most small businesses, with a little bit of coaching help, can do much more in-house than they think they can I saving themselves both time and money and almost always improves results at the same time.

When you know what to do, how to do it, have someone you can ask questions to and who will check what you are doing, the whole Internet marketing process becomes much less intimidating and much more fun. And once you see the increase in traffic, leads and/or sales this whole Internet marketing thing becomes MUCH more fun.

I’m not claiming to know everything there is to know about Internet marketing, but I do know a lot and I know what works for small business. I know what is profitable and what is a waste of time and money.

I’m up to date with the latest changes in SEO, in fact, I have helped my clients obtain, and maintain, well over 50,000 top search engine rankings.

I understand engagement marketing on the social networks. I personally have thousands of “likes” on Facebook, and connections of LinkedIn, and followers on Twitter, and readers of my blog posts and e-mails. My coaching clients have many thousands more. I see and work with Internet marketing every day… and I love it.

I deliver dozens of seminars and webinars each year.

The bottom-line is simply this, I AM QUALIFIED to be your Internet marketing coach.

How Much Does it Cost to Hire You as an Internet Marketing Coach?

My goal is to get you into my Marketing Maintenance program which is only $67 per month.

But before we get you into a maintenance mode we have to get your marketing up to date and make sure you understand what to do, how to do it and have systems in place to build on your momentum. So we start with a 4-week “Quick Start”. During the QS we will conduct a SWOT Analysis in order to find the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and any potential Threats to your Internet marketing.

For the first 4 weeks we will spend 1 hour a week with me showing you, very specifically, what to do and how to do it. You have unlimited access to me via e-mail so if you have any questions you can simply send them to me and I’ll get you an answer, usually within an hour. Again, this is for 4 weeks. We will get a lot done and you will begin seeing improvement in your marketing results.

After the first 4 weeks we go to 1 hour per month of live calls. This is usually one 1 hour call but sometimes it’s two 30 minute calls. I’m flexible. This allows us to continue to improve your search engine rankings, social marketing, conversion ratio, etc. at the very affordable monthly rate of $197.

In time, usually after 6-12 months of private Internet marketing coaching, you move into the $67 per month Marketing Maintenance program.

My goal is to get you to the Marketing Maintenance program is soon as possible but not before your marketing is totally up to speed and you are confident and competent at continuing on with very little 1 on 1 communication with me.

As you can sees my coaching program is VERY DIFFERENT from the other Internet marketing coaches. My goal is not to sell you more but to sell you less.

Click the following link for details about hiring me as your Internet marketing coach, or simply call me now at 541-482-4840, if I’m available I’ll talk with you right now. I’ll look at your site and your marketing and let you know what I think and how I can be of service to you. Give me a call 541-482-4840.

You know I’m an Internet marketing coach / consultant, but what does that mean to you? If you need help with your SEO, or Social Marketing or website conversions etc. is what I’m offering a good fit? You be the judge. In this video I give a look “behind the curtain” of our clients only website. Check it out…
