Before I get to 4 compelling reasons why you should jump on the blogging bandwagon let me point out some stats reported in Hubspot’s 2010 “The State of Inbound Marketing Survey” :

  • 77% of Internet users read blogs
  • Blogs yield an average ROI of 600%
  • Companies that blog have two times the number of inbound links versus companies that don’t
  • 46% of companies with blogs have acquired customers from a blog-generated lead
  • 58% say that they are better-known in their industry because of their blog
  • 56% say that their blog has helped their company establish a positioning as a thought leader within the industry

I’ll be the first to admit that blogs can be a lot of work I’m also quick to add that the work IS worth it. New visitors to my site has consistently grown by about 23% per month and my blog is the primary reason. Remember my blog feeds my FaceBook, LinkedIn and Twitter pages.

Based on my own personal experiences and the experiences if my clients I’ve outlined 4 reasons why I think every small business should blog:

1. Your blog will provide a low-cost way to create a bond with customers and potential customers.

2. Search Engine Optimization (SEO): Your blog allows you to constantly capitalize on hot topics and popular search terms. SEO helps increase traffic and expose your site t new visitors.

3. A blog is the hub for content that is delivered to social sites like LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook.

4. Your blog can help grow your business. Social media and blogs are the fastest growing categories in lead generation and, even though they are still far behind SEO, organizations report a 60% lower cost-per-lead than outbound-dominated organizations, and 46% of those using company blogs have acquired customers from a blog-generated according to Hubspot’s 2010 “The State of Inbound Marketing Survey”.
