Using Google Analytics, or whatever stats package you use, examine your web pages to determine which have the highest bounce rates (visitors landing on your page and immediately “bouncing” back to Google to find better information).

Try to identify why your visitors may be leaving the page so quickly.  Make changes. Change the headline, add a new image, add a bullet list, maybe you should add a video.

Embed videos on your website and your conversion ratio will improve. The case studies are everywhere. It’s just bout that simple and clear cut. Of course the video needs to b well put together and engaging but it does not have to be expensive. Look at the video on the home page here http://imgmembers.com/. It cost next to nothing.

Think about a how-to or an explanatory video for your product or services pages…

How much could you increase your conversion rates by showing examples of other customers using or talking about how the benefited from your products?

Personally, I have create a schedule to produce content regularly.  Remember Google is watching (in a good way). When you add quality content that rivets your visitors, keeping them on the page Google sees that as a sign that visitors like your site and Google likes sites that people like, and site Google likes get higher rankings. Consider a WordPress blog or WordPress as a CMS. If you need help with this let me know I have some GREAT resources.

iRobot, which sells automated cleaning machines, wanted to see if  adding a DHTML overlay alerting visitors about their robot upgrade program would increase average order size. Click here and vote to see if it worked.

Note: They tested the overlay on their main parts and accessories page because they believed a lot of those visitors were current owners looking for replacement parts. The upgrade allowed owners to purchase new machines at discounted prices but they had to call a 1-800 number or online chat with a customer service rep in order to do so.

I live in a very unique small town, Ashland, Oregon. Many would say it’s an throw-back to the ’60′s and in some ways it is. It’s very artsy with a world renowned Shakespeare Festival, a bunch B&B’s and galleries surrounded by organic farms and vineyards. Anyway, a buzz word around here is ‘authentic’. Being authentic, being real, being true to your beliefs and values.  Well now it seems the Google has jumped on that bandwagon too.

Unique, authentic, well written content, of course peppered with just the right keywords in just the right places, is now given much more weight by the Google algorithms and copied, redundant and overused and re-used content is getting hammered.

Labor over your SEO’d content now more than ever.

Google has been very clear about its intentions to quote:

“Our goal is simple: to give people the most relevant answers to their queries as quickly as possible. This requires constant tuning of our algorithms, as new content—both good and bad—comes online all the time.”

Obviously they are trying to find “good content” and based on my research that means, in part, more content. Start thinking in terms on 800 words and up, 1,300 to 1,500 words may well, when well written, be better yet.

PageRank & SEO

The bottom-line with the latest Google updates is this- Low quality content will sniffed out and moved down in the rankings, period. The authority or PageRank of your site won’t be enough for Google to allow poor content to remain high in the rankings. Now is the time to review and rewrite your content.

My mistake was this, I sent out an e-mail to make my subscribers aware of a new training session I’m offer in 10 days. I included a special bonus for early registration but… I FORGOT to put the date and time of the training session! Dumb, it was quickly pointed out to me by my subscribers and I sent a second correction e-mail. So far the results are not on but… sometimes these little mistakes actually end up helping conversions. I’ll let you know.  Here’s a link to the original email- http://conta.cc/eZWB0e

No matter how “captivating” your content, not everybody is going to read all of the words on the page. Provide the skimmer with enough information to make a decision.

Your subheads should tell the story in a nutshell. You should be stating the major sales points in your sub-headlines as the reader works through the copy. Anyone reading nothing but the subheads should be able to tell what the site is about and the action you want them to take.
